A story about winning a train trip

Once upon a time in a little town in NZ, 25 children and their teacher thought they would learn how to be safe around trains.  The holidays were coming and they didn’t want anyone getting squashed like a pancake (with red syrup) or killed.  The big freight trains, that went through the middle of town, grumbled and groaned, and shook the ground like a giant earthquake.  Getting too close to them would be a bit scary.

Mrs J (the teacher), who had a kind heart, did some research and found that there was a competition for school children to produce a Youtube clip showing how to be safe around trains.  Mrs J had been to a special learning place where they had checked her heart and given her eyes in the back of her head so she could help children learn important things like this.

The children were all very smart.  They were good at engaging their brain.  So they thought of lots of words that rhymed and put them together with some ‘choo choo’ music to make a rail safety song to share with their school.  They wanted other children to stay safe, and know what to do as well.

Being creative, they made their own train sounds using wood blocks, and built their own train ready for the item.  The scientists in the class put together a circuit for the flashing lights and a fulcrum for the barrier.  The builders constructed the station and the entertainers put together some actions.

The stage was set.  The audience arrived, and the item was performed while the ipad recorded…….

Moral of the story:  If you don’t have dreams, they can’t come true.

Our amazing train adventure

Singing our prizewinning song on the station platform.
Traveling in comfort

Disembarking in Otorohanga

Hotdogs and chips for lunch on the green
If you have ever wondered what 25 EXTREMELY excited children sound like, today would have been a good day to find out.  This morning we travelled to Hamilton to experience going on a train.  The rain stopped, the train finally arrived and on we got ...... Oh the exhilaration!  The children enthusiastically explored the seating, tables, menus, earphones, magazines, and self opening doors while they waited for the lights to turn green (45 minutes of waiting!!) and then we were off.  Parents waved and we waved back in eager expectation of a fantastic ride.  And we were not disappointed.  Puzzles were done, popcorn eaten, music listened to and our prizewinning song sung heartily.  Then it was off the train at Otorohanga to have hotdogs and chips for lunch and to look at all the icons around town.  We had a fantastic time  and we are very grateful to Kiwirail for their generous sponsorship of this learning adventure.
